Oakhurst Sunroom — Redmond, WA
Overview
A young family had outgrown their kitchen nook, with no real spot to spread out schoolwork, host visiting grandparents, or just be in the same room together. We added a sunroom off the back of the house that reads as original construction — matched rooflines, siding, and trim — so the new space feels like it's always been there.
The challenge
The lot's setback left little room to expand, and the family wanted the addition to disappear into the existing architecture rather than announce itself. Matching the roof pitch and siding reveal meant framing decisions that had to be right the first time.
Our solution
We built the addition's roof to tie into the existing ridge line and matched the original cedar siding course for course, so the transition is invisible from the street. Inside, a wall of windows and a skylight bring in north light all day, and a built-in banquette gives the family a spot for everything from breakfast to homework.
It doesn't look like an addition at all — guests assume it was always part of the house. That was exactly what we asked for, and Tillit delivered it.
